Jim Clyburn visits HopeHealthposted on Monday, March 15, 2010 On Tuesday, February 16, US Congressman Jim Clyburn toured HopeHealth to see firsthand the positive impact federal stimulus money has had on the Pee Dee. In 2009, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act made more than $2 billion available to Community Health Centers to expand services and infrastructure. Community health centers are located in areas that have been designated as Medically Underserved Populations. With the ARRA funding, HopeHealth was able to hire 16 more employees, increase the patient load, and expand health care services to more unemployed, uninsured residents of the Pee Dee. CEO, Carl Humphries stated "The jobs are important, but to me what's more important are the folks that are able to get healthcare because the employees that we were able to hire. In addition, ARRA funding will help to partially fund a new expansion to include 6 new exam rooms and a larger pharmacy. Community health centers serve as the health care home for more than 16 million in over 6,000 sites and have been ranked by the White House office of Management and Budget as one of the ten most effective government programs. Support from US Congressman Jim Clyburn, and other state and local representatives, is key to sustaining community health centers' programs and services in SC. * This is a printer friendly version of the original page, made to save you ink and paper.
