posted on Monday, October 25, 2010

HopeHealth Edisto recently received word of a grant award from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration for $300,000 per year for five years.

HopeHealth Edisto shares this grant with only 26 other organizations across the country and has been awarded the highest amount allowed for the grant - a total of $1.5 million over the next five years. With this funding, HopeHealth Edisto will provide HIV/AIDS prevention services as well as substance abuse prevention and community education to students at historically black colleges in Orangeburg and Bamberg counties.

HopeHealth has already begun the search for qualified individuals to fill new vacancies created by the grant to administer prevention and outreach services as outlined in the grant.

"This grant allows us to extend our mission to those at high risk for HIV infection and substance abuse," said Sallie Bachman, site director at HopeHealth Edisto. "We are looking forward to broadening our outreach base in Orangeburg County and extending services into Bamberg County."

HopeHealth is the only organization in South Carolina to be awarded this grant. To see the news release from SAMHSA about this grant and other organizations awarded funding, click here.
