HopeHealth Lower Savannah Partners with Georgia Health Science University to Provide Education, Testing, and Referral to Care for Women of Color

The Women of Color project is a culturally based intervention designed to enhance access and retention in HIV care for Women of Color.  The intervention consists of several core components: a referral network of medical and social services, an advocacy support program, a peer lead health literacy program, and a life skill support group offering medical and social services beyond HIV care.

The goals of this program are to provide education, testing, and referral to care for women of color in various community programs, to develop an integrated service approach based on a shared philosophy as a collaborative structure, and to develop an automated information network system that facilitates interagency personal information sharing, referral, and collection of outcome data.

HopeHealth Lower Savannah was selected to partner with Georgia Health Sciences University (GHSU) on this project because of our existing collaboration with the Infectious Disease section, our reputation for stellar case management services, and our provision of services within the established service territory. Currently, approximately 26% of the clients seen by GHSU are from South Carolina.

We have provided transportation for clients to two events so far, and to date we have had six women participate in these events.  "Girls Night Out" and "Pamper Me Pink" each provided dinner, education, and fun for the women participants. These women look forward to talking to other women like themselves and establishing bonds of friendship and sisterhood in order to help them live with their diagnosis. The motto of this project is "Live the life you've always imagined."  HopeHealth Lower Savannah is honored to be engaged in this project, and we hope to increase the number of our women participants as the project gains momentum.
