Celebrating Growth and Impact: The 2024 Heart Healthy Barbershop Tour

At HopeHealth, we are proud to recognize the tremendous growth and success of the Heart Healthy Barbershop Tour, a program dedicated to improving heart health education and engagement in our communities.

Revamped in 2024 by Men’s Health Community Health Worker, Terrance Legette, this initiative has expanded its focus on education, care coordination, community outreach, and advocacy—meeting men where they are and empowering them with tools to take charge of their health.

With generous funding from TD Bank, this program made a direct impact by providing heart health education, hands-on blood pressure training for barbers and community members, and free blood pressure monitors. Most importantly, Terrance ensured continued engagement through follow-up calls and support, keeping participants on track with their health goals.

Originally piloted in 2023 by Alfonso (AJ) Legette, former HopeHealth intern, with 22 men, the program saw remarkable growth in 2024, increasing participation over fivefold to 102 participants. Of those:
✅ 59% stayed engaged throughout the year, consistently following up with monthly readings and check-ins.
✅ 29% saw a measurable decrease in blood pressure, reflecting the impact of sustained awareness and lifestyle changes.
✅ Three participants became new HopeHealth patients, further strengthening their commitment to their health.
The year concluded with a celebratory event, bringing together participants, barbers, and community members to recognize these achievements and introduce upcoming men’s health initiatives.

This program’s success is a testament to the power of trusted community relationships, ongoing support, and strategic partnerships. We extend our gratitude to TD Bank for their generous funding, as well as Terrance, our local barbers, and every participant who made this initiative possible. Together, we are making heart health a priority—one barbershop at a time.
