Designed to help people prevent or delay the onset of diabetes, this successful national program has been offered at the HopeHealth Medical Plaza in Florence for more than two years and is new to Kingstree and Manning.
Participants meet weekly for the first several months and learn proven strategies to make small life-style changes that can cut the risk of developing diabetes by more than half. These changes have helped participants significantly reduce their A1c, or average blood sugar level, lose weight, and increase their activity. Eligibility requirements include:
• 18 years or older
• a body mass index, or BMI, of 25 or higher (23 for Asians)
• a diagnosis of prediabetes
For more information on eligibility or participating in the program, call Sonda Jett-Clair, chronic disease prevention coordinator, at 843-432-3717.
