HopeHealth Behavioral Health Services

Behavioral Health Services

Quality of life is determined by many factors, including physical health and emotional wellness. Studies show that many Americans go without needed behavioral health treatment and South Carolina is ranked as one of the lowest in the country for access to care. But HopeHealth is working to remove barriers to care in order to help patients improve not only their medical well-being, but also their psychological health. It takes courage to seek support when life seems overwhelming. Therefore, HopeHealth offers patients a variety of mental and behavioral health services and resources. Our Behavioral Health Services enable patients to develop a unique plan for improving their mental, behavioral, and social health.

HopeHealth offers mental and behavioral health care in the primary care setting at HopeHealth Medical Plaza in Florence, HopeHealth Kingstree, and HopeHealth Manning offices, with additional specialty services at HopeHealth Behavioral Health Services on Palmetto Street in Florence. HopeHealth Palmetto offers substance use disorder treatment (counseling and medication-assisted treatment) and outpatient behavioral health treatment (psychiatric care and counseling/psychotherapy).

To be eligible for behavioral health services, individuals must first become a patient and be examined by their primary care provider. The primary care provider will consult a Behavioral Health Consultant (BHC), who will work with the patient to assess needs and develop a treatment plan. The treatment plan may include a referral to one of the behavioral health programs, substance use disorder treatment programs, or an outside provider when clinically indicated.

Behavioral Health Treatment

  • Psychiatric Care: Our psychiatrist and nurse practitioner focus primarily on treating psychological difficulties with medication. They are able to write prescriptions and work with patients on medication management when essential for their course of treatment, although prescribing medication is only one aspect of care. They work in close conjunction with the rest of our behavioral health team which also includes psychologists and counselors.
  • Counseling and Psychotherapy: Our psychologists and counselors conduct more in-depth assessment and use evidence-based treatments that target patients’ thoughts, behaviors, and emotions. They work with patients to develop a variety of coping skills for improving overall mental health and work with the psychiatrists to determine the best course of treatment. Types of treatment may include individual, couple, family, and group. Examples of therapy include cognitive-behavioral therapy, solutions-focused therapy, mindfulness skills training, behavior modification, and interpersonal psychotherapy.

Substance Use Disorder Treatment

  • Counseling: HopeHealth’s substance use disorder services include substance use assessment, drug screenings and counseling for opioid and other addictions. Assessment and counseling are provided by licensed addictions counselors who are skilled in facilitating patients’ successful recovery..
  • Medication Assisted Treatment: Additionally, we offer access to medication assisted treatment for opioid addiction at our Palmetto Street and Kingstree locations. Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) combines behavioral therapy and medications to treat substance use disorders. Our MAT providers are certified Buprenorphine Treatment Practitioners authorized to treat opioid dependency with buprenorphine (Suboxone). In addition to Suboxone, medications like Vivitrol are also available to facilitate patients’ recovery.
